The Naughty Squirrel

Playriga.com the site that started as a web site for tourists, evolved to be against tourists (especially sex tourists), afterwards changed again to focus on art and culture and eventually crashed and was restored from old backup!
The site has still has prices in Lats (LVL), pages are not updated since long long time ago, but in any case it stays as it is as a nice souvenir to old times.

The Naughty Squirrel is the number one hostel in Riga in my opinion and also in the opinion of the voters the web site hostelworld.com.

What makes a hostel a good hostel?

First let's talk about the difference between a hostel and a hotel:

The difference is in my opinion, that a Hotel is a place where people come to sleep in. It can be expensive hotel that offers towels with smell of flowers and more, but after all in a Hotel people get their room, their shower and their privacy.

A hostel is a bit different, part of the "hostel experience" is the atmosphere in it. And the feeling that one gets when joining the community of people that spend their time together with him.

In the Naughty Squirrel hostel this is exactly what makes it so good, the atmosphere and the people that work in it.

The hostel is run by Australian person together with his girlfriend. They do most of the work in the place and give the guests a feeling of "coming to their own home" when they stay.
There is a chill out room with very comfortable sofas and "poof chairs" (the naughty squirrel)

A TV with very good sound system with an option to put movies from a collection of the hostel.

In the reception pretty and friendly girls. Option to buy drinks and snacks, cozy kitchen.

Very comfortable beds in the rooms.

The place gives a feeling of relaxing, very friendly staff plus according to the staff there are some naughty squirrels going around... ;).

Didn't see any Squirrel, but saw some very pretty girls working in the reception.

Also there is an option to take a free tour to the city every day at 12:00.

In any case, in my personal opinion this place really deserves the prize of "number 1 hostel in Riga".
